The July 14 back-page ad in the Osceola News-Gazette lacked disclosure indicating the entity that paid for the ad. This was an oversight before production and was in no way intentional on the part of the newspaper or its management. We were able to correct the online version of the electronic edition on the day of publication and inform readers via our social media channels.
I take personal responsibility for the error and any confusion it may have caused. Although we realize as a newspaper that many topics and issues are not always popular with all readers, the Osceola News-Gazette strives to be a vehicle for all aspects of all types of issues, whether political or not. We work very hard to be unbiased in our reporting and content and this or any other publicity, letters to the editor, stories, press releases, etc. do not reflect the opinions of our newspaper.
We will be reviewing our policies regarding these advertisements to ensure that this type of situation does not happen again in the future.
When we share a viewpoint, it will be clearly printed on our Viewpoint page, with the name of the author, a member of our editorial team or a guest columnist clearly indicated.
I would also like to clarify that our editor, Ken Jackson, does not oversee or have any role in our advertising department. The editorial and advertising departments are separate entities in our newspaper. Ken is a valued member of our news agency and does an excellent job as an editor and reporter.
In conclusion, if anyone has any questions or concerns related to advertising or any other topic related to our newspaper, please contact me personally at 407-846-7600 or email [email protected]
