We are delighted to announce that Allyson Chiu will be joining the Climate and Environment Department as a Climate Solutions Reporter, leading our coverage of people and organizations working to combat climate change and other environmental issues.
In this role, Allyson will explore the most innovative work done to avert catastrophe and help readers understand what they can do in their own lives to protect the planet.
Allyson came to The Post as a local intern in January 2018, then joined the Morning Mix team later that year. After spending more than two years on the night shift – during which time she produced a variety of viral stories that spanned politics, sports, pop culture, science and sea mammals – Allyson moved on to features to become The Post’s first full-time wellness reporter in August. 2020.
Allyson has played a vital role in guiding Post readers through the confusion of pandemic life and the ever-changing ‘new normal’ with a mix of breaking news, service journalism and deeply reported features on the pandemic as good as other areas of well-being. One of his most-read service articles to date was surprisingly uncoronavirus-related, but answered the simple question of how to shower.
Throughout her time at The Post, Allyson has demonstrated an ongoing interest in reporting on the environment and climate change, most recently writing an evidence piece. link air pollution exposure to COVID-19 risks.
Allyson was born and raised in Guam. She graduated from Northwestern in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Having spent most of her life on an island, she loves the beach and all ocean-related activities, including scuba diving, snorkeling and paddleboarding. You can also always count her for a game of volleyball or board game night.
