April 2022 Editor’s Message – Editor’s Message

Katie Bliss, editor, Metropolitan Airport News

April is National Volunteer Month, and there’s no better time to recognize the hard work and dedication of the volunteers and commercial organizations operating at our airports. You may be surprised to learn just how much these organizations do and how many of these volunteers work with you at the airport.

They are groups of dedicated people who work well together in multiple organizations to provide kindness and support to those who need it most. If airports themselves are a community, voluntary organizations are a community within that community. It’s definitely a lot of hard work, but there’s also a lot of fun, friendship, and networking.

Most people find giving of their time and talents to be done at home, but as you will learn after reading this month’s article, Volunteers – A step forward, there are also many to do around the places where we work.

While civic support is often built into the business plan of many large airport operators, it also takes an “on the ground” effort by small businesses and individuals to make a positive difference in people’s lives. . This is where these voluntary organizations come into action.

If you haven’t considered volunteering or feel you don’t have the time or talent, please reconsider. You might be surprised at how much your life changes for the better when you are of service to others.

I hope you enjoy this issue and think about which organization would be best for you. Check out their websites, projects, charities they support, and members you may already know. There are so many different organizations; you need to find the right fit for you!
