Nintendo Drops Metacritic’s Top 10 Game Publishers in 2021, Down to 14th Place

While Nintendo held a top spot as the second-best publisher on Metacritic’s 2017 List of Game Publisher Ratings, the company has steadily dropped down the list over the years. He dropped to fourth place in 2018 and 2019ninth in 2020and now sits at No. 14 on the 2021 list.

the rankings 2021 feature Microsoft in first place, followed by Sony in second and Humble Games in third.

While Nintendo Switch hardware and its games still dominate the gaming market, how is it possible for Nintendo to land outside the top ten? As Metacritic points out in its more detailed report“[Nintendo’s] the percentage of games receiving positive reviews dropped from 67% to 50%. Last year also saw “a lack of games scoring 90 or more – something Nintendo seems to achieve more consistently than any other publisher”. Although Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury and Metroid Dread both received positive reception, even those heavy hitters landed just below Metacritic’s score of 90 (receiving 89 and 88 respectively).

Still, it looks like Nintendo could drastically change things this year. 2022 has started with a bang with Pokémon Legends: Arceus followed by the recent launch of Triangle Strategy, and on the horizon awaits the sequel to Breath of the Wild, Kirby and the Forgotten Lands, Splatoon 3, Bayonetta 3 and Nintendo Switch Sports to name a few. than them a handful. well being very shocked if Nintendo doesn’t reclaim its throne in Metacritic’s 2022 Editors’ Rankings!
