Editor & Publisher (E&P), a trusted resource for news media leadership, is thrilled to announce a new partnership with The Diversity Pledge Institute, a non-profit organization that cares about diversity in the classroom. newsroom by working with employers to improve the hiring and retention of journalists of color and by identifying qualified journalists of color and preparing them for careers in news.
By launching the Initiative, the organizations will provide training, mentorship and job placement services to journalists of color, including upcoming graduates and recent graduates. Together, they will also provide resources and coaching to guide employers in recruiting and retaining diverse talent. E&P has also launched a new resource site called “Diversity Spotlight” which features exclusive editorial content and links to all relevant resources and stories to help editors find relevant content in one place and create a workplace. more diverse and inclusive.
“We have worked with The Diversity Pledge Institute since its inception and can’t think of a better partner to help us work with the industry to achieve true diversity, equity and inclusion in any news publishing operation,” said Mike Blinder, E&P Editor. “Our goal is to be an essential resource where any news publisher can go, regardless of medium or size, to get the information and resources they need to achieve these essential goals.”
Along with training and placement, the program also aims to raise awareness of the resources available to journalists of color and hiring managers, while emphasizing the importance of building diverse, equitable and inclusive newsrooms.
“Through E&P, we put some of journalism’s leading, diverse voices in front of an audience capable of having the greatest impact: the editors and publishers who run our newsrooms,” said Larry Graham, Founder and Executive Director of The Diversity Pledge Institute. “We are all excited about the possibilities of this partnership leading to tangible and repeatable results around DEI strategies in college and professional newsrooms.”
E&P and The Diversity Pledge Institute are seeking additional funding to support more work together, including training from The Poynter Institute, credits for job postings on the Media Job Board for newsrooms seeking diverse candidates and resume coaching.
