Team17 Worm Editor Already Cancels NFT Plans

A day after Team17 announced its line of Toward NFTpublisher is canceling all support for controversial cryptocurrency technology following public outcry.

“Team17 today announces the end of the MetaWorms NFT project,” Team17 said in a press release Tuesday. “We have listened to our teamsters, development partners and our games communities, and the concerns they have expressed, and have therefore made the decision to withdraw from the NFT space.”

The announcement of the MetaWorms NFT project came on Monday, and as Ubisoft and GSC Game World before them, Team17 faced a huge backlash that clearly didn’t sit well with the company.

We’ve seen this kind of song and dance many times in the last month alone. Dead in broad daylight Behavior Interactive developer immediately apologized following the announcement of a NFT Collaboration. Meanwhile, actor Troy Baker apologized Monday for his own NFT partnership – which, for those of you following, was the same day as Team17 MetaWorms NFT Announcement.

However, it’s likely that pressure from game development studios under the Team17 umbrella, like Aggro Crab, publicly denouncing the MetaWorms NFT project also had an effect.

If history is any indication, you’ll likely see NFT announcements followed by immediate cancellation headlines all year.
