Ogletree began working in the construction business under the guidance of his sixteen-year-old brother. He was only fourteen at the time, and his brother would pay him part of his check based on the amount of work Ogletree had done. “He had control over what I was paid. I’ve been working in the industry ever since,” he said.

McAllen – On Monday, June 27, 2022, at the Town Commissioner’s meeting, McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos offered tax relief for residents of McAllen. He explained that the city had worked on a tight budget and was economical with expenses, but that the city had done well. “A few weeks ago, we helped our employees a little.” He said: ‘I have asked our city manager to look into the possibility of a small tax break. I hope and think that maybe we can do that.
Mayor Villalobos mentioned that the meeting had many essential elements for the discussion, among them this was the most important. “Our job is to ensure that taxpayers’ money is properly managed.” Read the full story inside.
Mission- On a historic note, congratulations to the Town of Mission on the recent election results. Former Plaza 3 councilwoman Norie Gonzalez Garza won the election and was sworn in as mayor.
Gonzalez Garza, a longtime municipality resident, is the first woman to be elected mayor of the town of Mission. More details inside.
Going International – South Texas College is expanding its training and workforce development services to manufacturers south of the border for the first time ever.
STC has been trying to work with maquiladoras (factories) in Mexico for some time and has hired a Global Market Development Coordinator to help with the new initiative.
Luisa Fernanda Rodriguez was hired as STC’s new Global Market Development Coordinator in January. All the details inside.
Harlingen-Texas State Technical College alumnus Dora Vasquez, former Harlingen resident, graduated with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Mechatronics Technology from TSTC in May.
She accepted an electrician internship six months ago with Oncor Electric Delivery in North Dallas and was recently promoted to a Level II electrician position with the company. More details inside.
Pharr – The City of Pharr Commission has approved a policing agreement between the City of Pharr and Vanguard Academy for the 2022-2023 “School Resource Officer Program”. This Memorandum of Understanding between Vanguard Academy and the Pharr Police Department will enable collaboration in the creation of a School Resource Officer program. This partnership aims to assign Pharr police officers to Vanguard Academy schools to provide police services. More details inside.
